The farm is sleepy this time of year most of the work is feeding animals and breaking ice on water buckets even though we’ve had an exteremely mild winter so far. The wet weather has been tough on our goats hooves this year and we can’t wait till we start getting heavy freezes.
We’ve begun mating our female Berkshire pigs to our Old Spot boar and hope to have piglets in early spring. I’ve started setting up the pig maternity ward and reworking the fencing surrounding the barn.
I purchased beautiful pine lumber from a new friend in North Stonington who runs a lumber mill and plan to build a nice farm stand in the coming months. There is so much anticipation and planning for next year throughout winter.
